Charity Wine Auction Posters

Each year a piece of artwork is commissioned to be auctioned and a limited number of posters of the artwork are produced for sale. Each painting has a story and strong connection to the Hawke's bay region and Cranford Hospice, the beneficiary. Posters are priced at $29.50 (incl GST). This year's work is by renowned artists Dick Frizzell and Martin Poppelwell, who have both featured individually in prior years, as wine auction artists. This year they have joined forces to produce 'Study for a Rough Red'. This painting was inspired by a collage of wine labels on the wall of a Hastings wine bottling plant. The collage idea then evolved into a patchwork canvas where text painting is layered in various combinations that have been added and subtracted by both artists. This build up of texture and letter forms comes from the way local fruit and vegetable signs are continuously painted over time and time again. It will be offered for sale at this year's Charity Wine Auction to be held on the 4th of June.
