Those who attend this year’s installation of the widely acclaimed annual three-day red wine exhibition, Hot Red Hawke’s Bay, have the opportunity to not only experience some of Hawke’s Bay’s finest red wines, but also have the chance to win a wine lover’s dream getaway.
General admission to this year’s July exhibition have been limited to just 200 for each of the three shows, in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, and one guest from amongst these discerning wine lovers and the 300 wine trade and media, will win a fabulous Hawke’s Bay wine tour weekend package for two.
The stunning wine lover’s package includes;
• Air New Zealand return flights to Hawke’s Bay
• Accommodation at the five star Crown Hotel, Port Ahuriri, Napier
• Dinner with the winemaker at Church Road and a vertical TOM tasting
• A meal at Vidal Estate prepared by NZ Chef of the Year 2008 Ken O’Connell
• Blending tutorial at Alpha Domus
• Lunch and tutored tasting at Bridge Pa
• Cellar tour and barrel tastings at Esk Valley
• Vineyard tour and tasting at Matariki Wines
• Winery tour and vertical Syrah tasting at Moana Park Winery
• Tour and tasting at the historic Mission Estate Winery
Attendees go in the draw to win the prize after answering this year’s question: name the two main grape varieties used in Hawke’s Bay ‘Bordeaux’ blended red wines, and by also gaining the signatures of three of the winemakers exhibiting at the event.
Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Inc. Executive Officer, Lyn Bevin, says the competition is a success every year, with around 95 percent of ticket holders making the extra effort to enter the draw.
“The competition not only gives our audience something extra to look forward to and anticipate but also encourages them to interact with the winemakers, something we believe to be a very important element of our expo,” says Lyn.
Last year’s winners, David and Sandra Hillyard of Auckland say they were superbly looked after at each and every winery they visited as part of their prize package and went home well educated after their weekend-long visit.
“The trip was a once in a lifetime opportunity that was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated,” say David and Sandra, who took their good friends Cheryl and Frank Bax along for the experience as well.
The couple add that being in the area for a few days just would not have been right without visiting some of the other quality wineries in the area.
“We visited 15 Hawke’s Bay wineries in total and enjoyed their wines and foods, all of which are different and unique and an experience on their own.”
Lyn says they expect a box full of entries for this year’s competition after each show.
“This prize really appeals to our audience – who wouldn’t want to spend a luxury weekend in Hawke’s Bay tasting our best wines and foods while also gaining insight into the winemaking process from some of our country’s top winemakers?”
Hot Red Hawke’s Bay is being held in Christchurch at Christchurch Town Hall on Tuesday July 7; in Wellington at The Duxton Hotel on Wednesday July 8; and in Auckland at Heritage Hotel on Thursday July 9.
General admission tickets are $35 which includes a special Hot Red wine glass, wine samples of all wines, and full catalogue of all wines and wineries.
