Accolades for Hawke’s Bay wine from Aussies at Hot Red
Hawke’s Bay’s red wines gained rave reviews from hospitality and wine trade guests at the Hot Red Hawke’s Bay expo held yesterday in Melbourne. (Tuesday 27 July).
Twenty-four Hawke’s Bay wineries are in Australia this week for two events to share over 130 red wines that are representative of the Hawke’s Bay annual vintage, as part of an initiative hosted by Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Inc.
Over 300 people attended yesterday with more than 200 of those from the hospitality trade and media. Today (Wednesday 28 July) over 400 Sydneysiders are being introduced to the wines.
“We’ve received some very positive comments from the guests as well as the wineries attending,” says Lyn Bevin, HBWG Executive Officer. “There’s lots of desire from consumers to be able to purchase a bigger range of Hawke’s Bay wine.”
Ms Bevin said there had been “brilliant” attendance from some of Melbourne’s top sommeliers and restaurateurs as well as retail outlet Dan Murphy’s and fine wine specialist stores.
Comments from attendees included “some truly stunning wines”, “… deserve more international recognition, the Cabernets and Cabernet Merlots are simply outstanding.”
One attendee commented “Great event! We were in Hawke’s Bay last year but this event brought the best of the best to our door!”
Winemakers are in attendance to talk through the wines and provide a real understanding of Hawke’s Bay’s regional strengths and what Australia has to look forward to, as well as to look out for!
