Brian Croser

Simon Tam was born in Hong Kong and raised in Australia. Proud of his East-West heritage, he is a passionate advocate in the judicious marriage of Asian food with wine. With a career spanning more than 18 years in the Greater China wine industry, he is widely considered Greater China’s industry expert. Simon is a columnist and contributing editors to 23 publications, websites, radio and TV programs. In June 2007 Simon was voted “The Best Wine Consultant in Hong Kong” by 500 members of the wine trade. He has been educating the Asian wine and hospitality industry for a decade and a half. Simon is the founding director of Independent Wine Centre in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Macao. He is also the director of Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition, jointly founded by IWSC of UK.

     

Kees van Leeuwen is Professor of Viticulture and head of the vine ecophysiology laboratory at ENITA – Bordeaux University.  His research deals with the terroir effect in viticulture, with particular focus on the positive effect of mild environmental stress on grape quality potential. He has worked on indicators for vine water deficit stress and grapevine phenology modelling. He has also authored and co-authored many scientific and technical papers. 
Kees van Leeuwen worked full time as a technical director for Château Cheval Blanc (Premier Grand Cru Classé, Saint-Emilion) from 1992 through 1996 and he still works for this estate as a consultant since he took up his university position in 1996.

     

Brian Croser has been an innovator in the Australian wine industry for 35 years. Educated at the University of Adelaide, of which he was Deputy Chancellor for eight years and at the University of California, Croser was involved it the establishment of the Charles Sturt Wine Science degree in Wagga Wagga and in the establishment of many industry associations through the 1970s and the 1980s.
Brian Croser is recognized as Australia’s leading exponent of terrior-driven wines. Founder and chief winemaker / Chairman of Petaluma for 27 years, he has continued his commitment to research and development of unique sites with the establishment of Tapanappa Wines Pty Ltd. He has also established a vineyard in the Eola Hills Oregon, USA.

Brian Croser has been made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his contribution to research, education and service to the Australian Wine Industry. He has been the President of the Winemakers Federation of Australia, the Chairman of Adelaide, Sydney and Canberra (The National) wine shows and received numerous awards for service to the Australian wine industry including the prestigious Maurice O’Shea award, an Honorary Doctorate for the Charles Sturt University and most recently made Doctor of the University of Adelaide in 2007. In 2004 he was Decanter’s Man of the Year.
